Our members

Forty-four percent of the members of Translation Industry Professionals KAJ work as translators and/or interpreters. The most typical titles of our members are:

Many of our members work in varied documentation and localisation positions as well as in several professions in communication and export industries.

Sixty percent of the members of the union are employed in the private sector in companies, associations and foundations. The majority of the private sector employees we represent are employed by companies that offer translation services, language training, localisation services and technical documentation/writing.

Approximately 22% of our members work in the public sector and municipalities.

Academic professionals

Seventy-one percent of our members have an MA level university degree. Twenty-five percent of members have a BA level degree, including the ones who studied and graduated from Language Institutes (Kieli-instituutti) before translator education in Finland began in universities in 1981. Four percent of our members have other degrees (e.g. degrees from abroad) (February 2014).
